Mod Lodge

Haus Rules

  • This is a Non-smoking household

  • No shoes / boots are allowed in the house please. Slippers & flip-flops provided.

  • Theft / Damage: Mod Lodge is truly a labor of love for me, and I love sharing the magic with others. Please enjoy everything, from my vinyl record collection, groovy books, and kitchen stuff.

  • Please use care when handling all of the above, and upon departure please leave things as they were. ALL Mod Lodge items are inventoried and regularly accounted for. The cost of any damage or missing items will be deducted from the guest’s security deposit.

  • Hot Tub: In a crucial effort to maintain water quality, ALL GUESTS MUST SHOWER PRIOR TO USING THE HOT TUB. Tub access IN WINTER is via the downstairs family room ONLY. No winter access via the main deck. Absolutely NO GLASS ALLOWED in the tub. Fresh spa towels are located in a basket in the family room. Please use care & move slowly when opening and closing the tub lid. The hinge is fussy and will break if “forced.” Please keep the lid closed when not in use. Tub controls are fairly simple, however please feel free to text Gus with any operation questions! After each usage, (and prior to shutting jets off) please add approximately one tablespoon of “spa shock” (white bottle w/ orange cap) to tub water; this helps to keep water fresh.

  • Please refrain from leaving exterior lights on while not in use. The Tahoe Donner HOA issues citations for light pollution.

  • Please lock all doors when you’re away from the house & windows. Make sure all windows & doors are securely closed upon checkout.

  • No parties are permitted.

  • Fire place: Please enjoy, but please be careful! The fire extinguisher is located to the right of the fireplace. Everything you need to start your fire is provided in a bucket to the right of the fireplace (matches, lighter, newspaper, kindling). CAUTION: The fireplace door frame gets extremely hot... do not touch with bare hands. To open and lock the door, please use the stainless steel removable handle and gloves, provided in the bucket; leather gloves must be worn at all times when loading wood etc. Fan control accessible via the bottom door, beneath the main fireplace door. Should you be making more than one fire during your stay, please throw ash in the galvanized ash can at the front door. Ash shovel is located in the starter bucket.

  • To minimize ash dust, it is best to lower the shovel to the ash can. Do not throw it in the can. If more firemaking utensils are needed, do not hesitate to text/call Gus, and a groundskeeper will deliver more utensils.

  • Towels: In the interest of water conservation and helping the environment, please use towels in the linen closet sparingly.

  • A few rooms are off limits inside the house. This includes the garage.

  • Trash & Recycling: Stainless steel can with white bag is trash, sliding cabinet drawer bin with blue bag is for recycling. Fresh bags are located in the cabinet below the sink. Upon your departure, please pull your trash and recycling bags, and using black wheelie cart on the front porch please wheel both bags down the driveway and deposit them in the brown “bear box” closest to the street (there are two boxes)... THANK YOU!

  • For cleaning all orange countertops please use nothing but Fantastic cleaner. (located underneath sinks in the kitchen and both bathrooms).

  • In an effort to conserve water, use towels sparingly.

  • All items (including vinyl records) in the home have been accounted for on an itemized list, guests will be charged for any missing or broken objects.

  • Deck stairs & patio: please use caution and handrails while on steps. Please use beach towels on all deck and patio seating. Towels are located in the hallway linen closet on the main floor.

  • In the event of thundershowers we ask that you please collect all cushions & pillows and bring them inside.

  • The deck dining table can be kept clean with Sprayway glass cleaner & paper towels (both are located below the BBQ grill.) Propane tank located beneath grill. Spare tank located on deck. The grill is fairly user friendly to operate. If you have any questions please feel free to text Gus (415-740-9391) In addition to turning off the gas, also close the propane valve in a clockwise motion.

  • Please do not attempt to clean the outside grill, this includes lids and doors. The stainless steel scratches easily. If you must clean please text Gus for instructions.

  • Window shades: Keeping shades closed until the morning sun passes around the house really helps keep the in house temperature more comfortable!

  • Deck, stair & patio LIGHTS: Switch for main deck lights is located on the wall behind the dining table. These lights are BRIGHT! Switches for suitable “ambient” lights are located inside the house, both to the right of the sliding glass door on the main level, as well downstairs in the family room as to the right of the rear door.

  • Gas Fire Pit: (Summer Only) To operate a fire pit you will need brass key, long lighter and lantern / flashlight; All are located on the family room mantle piece, to the far right. Please use care when walking down stone steps to the fire pit area. If you are facing the valley, the keyhole to turn on gas is located at the “3 o’clock” position on the outside bottom stone pit. Insert key into hole, (feel it engage with contact point) turn key several times, (stop when any resistance is felt) and then hold lit lighter to any of the dozens of small holes on stainless steel centerpiece. Fire will ignite and quickly spread throughout the entire centerpiece. To turn off fire, simply turn key clockwise until any resistance is felt. Please return the key, lighter & flashlight to the family room mantelpiece upon check out.

  • Kitchen: Please do not use metal utensils on non-stick pans or the rice cooker. Please hand wash all wooden utensils (hot soapy water). Do not use the dishwasher for wooden utensils.

  • Cast iron skillet to be cleaned by hand using warm water and minimal amount of dish soap, please do not place the skillet in the dishwasher!

Thank you so much, and enjoy your stay!

-Gus
